Volunteers Ready Downtown for Holidays

A concerted effort made possible through the cooperation of community-minded businesses, County Commissioners, Veterans Groups and organizations resulted in the annual placement of the Christmas tree on Monument Square. The tradition of obtaining and decorating the tree enjoyed by many within the community was continued through coordination of Downtown Lewistown, Inc., and orchestrated through a dedicated group of volunteers committed to make the Holidays special.

This year, a 25-foot tall Douglas Fir tree donated by McClure’s Evergreens of Port Royal, and delivered by Old Port Plumbing & Heating was placed on Monument Square. This marks the sixth year that McClure’s has provided the town tree on Monument Square. It was erected through the efforts of Crider-Mitchell Construction Company who lent their equipment and labor to secure it in place with the help of their high-lift and crew (not to mention their assistance in removing the tree at Season’s end). Lepley Electric lent the service of their bucket truck and technician for stringing the lights, and Denise Foss, Foss Jewelers and Paul Wilson, Jr. Wilson’s Gifts & Jewelry contributed lights and their time to decorate the Tree.

We also acknowledge the support and assistance of the Borough of Lewistown for their continued work to decorate Downtown with the snowflakes, banners, and other pole decorations. Thanks are also in order to the Lewistown Parking Authority who provided banners in the Authority owned downtown parking lots. Additionally, the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Festival of Ice Committee along with the County Maintenance Department hung banners around Monument Square. Without the caring support of these volunteers, Borough and County workers, and local businesses, none of the festive Holiday lights and seasonal decorations we all enjoy would be possible.

Downtown Lewistown, Inc. reminds shoppers and visitors that parking is free on Saturdays through the Holidays and has Courtesy Parking in effect through the week. Courtesy Parking is in effect at Borough meters beginning Thanksgiving Day whereas the Borough Parking Enforcement Officer will place a nickel in an expired meter one time in appreciation for your patronage of the Downtown.

We invite you to keep the Holidays special in Downtown Lewistown.
